One of your classmates recently asked me on Twitter how likely it is that he will get an internship with Boeing. While I cannot answer that question, I can provide some information about general job market conditions. As of October 2018, the hiring rate (Hire rate = hires/total employment) in the West (Boeing is in Seattle which is part of the West region for BLS purposes) was 3.7 while in the whole country it was 3.9. Boeing counts as durable goods manufacturing which had a hiring rate of 2.6, compared to all industry hiring rates of 4.3. Let us assume we asked a sample of 175 workers who have recently applied to Boeing and 140 workers who have recently applied to other industries. Out of the workers who applied to Boeing 18 got a job and out of the workers who applied to other industries, 12 got a job. Perform a hypothesis test using α = 0.05 to determine if the hiring rates between Boeing and other industries differ. Calculate the test statistic (3 decimal places) · Determine the critical value (2 decimal places) · State your conclusion
