Which term of the sequence –3, 1, 5, 9, 13, … is 65? Alisha solved the question as shown below.

an = 65

a1 = –3

d = –3 – 1 = –4

65 = –3 + (n–1)(–4)

65 = –3 –4n + 4

65 = 1 – 4n

65–1 = 4n

n = 64 ÷ 4

n = 16

So, the 16th term of the sequence is 65.

What is the error in the computation? Find the correct answer.
