Could someone tell me on how to get the correct answer, im correcting a test to raise my grade, and i need to show my work on how i got the answer for it to count as a point, someone !

a spring stretches as force is applied to it.   the more force, the more stretching.
 
here, y represents the length of the spring.   if no force is applied, then the spring is 1 inch long.   see where the line crosses the y-axis?   the coordinates of the y-intercept are (0,1).   the equation of the line is y=0.73x+1.

now supposing you apply a 1-lb stretching force to the spring, which is 1 inch long before that force is applied.   this stretching force will extend the spring by 0.73 inch:   y=0.73(inch/lb)(1 lb) + 1 inch, or 0.73 inch + 1 inch, or 1.73 inch.   focus on the units of measurement of the "slope" of this line/function.

in summary,
if no stretching force is applied, the spring has a natural length of 1 inch.
if a 1-lb str. force is applied, the spring's length will be 1 inch + (0.73 in/lb)(1 lb), or 1.73 inch.

if a 2-lb str. force is app'd, the length will be 1 inch + (0.73 in/lb)(2 lb), or 
1 inch + 1.46 inches = 2.46 inches.

and so on.
