"an eighth-grade student completed a two-part math test. his score on part a was eight points lower than his score on part b. the sum of his points on the two tests was 172. what was his score on part b of the math test? " when looking at this i came up with "a=b-8" and "a+b=172" would those be right? and then just plug in equation one into equation 2 and solve? if i do that i get b=90 and a=82; these are resonable answers because 90-82=8 and a was 8 lower than b?
