Is (x+4)^2 equivalent to 2x^2+8x+8? Explain or show your reasoning. no because they have different x values

(x + 4) 2 —> 2x + 8

2 x 2 + 8x + 8 —> 8x + 12

teachers response:

Your answer is correct in that they are not equivalent. But I need you to show me what (x+4)^2 equals. First, you would write it this way: (x+4) (x+4). Now, multiply these binomials…what do you get?

please help!!
