Here is the definition of a net from www.icoachmath.com:

“Net is a two-dimensional pattern of a three-dimensional figure that can be folded to form the figure. In other words, net is a flattened three-dimensional figure which can be turned into the solid by folding it.”

In the photo is an example of a net of a rectangular prism.

Surface area is the measure of the total area of the surface of a 3D object. For example, if I have a cube, the surface area would be the area of the outside of the cube.
