people want to eat it. You can also create a slogan, logo, or package design for the
mix. Your recipe must meet the following contest guidelines:
1. It must have at least five different ingredients.
2. The amount of each ingredient should be represented by a different mixed
number.
3. The recipe must make exactly 10 cups of trail mix.
After you write your recipe, complete the following for your contest entry:
• Prove that your recipe makes exactly 10 cups.
• Explain the most efficient method for measuring each ingredient using only
the following two measuring cups:

cup and
1\4
cup. You can use one or
both of the measuring cups. Note: Depending on the fractions that you chose
for your ingredient amounts, it may not be possible to create each exact
amount using only
1\3
and
1\4
measuring cups. If you need to, you can round
your ingredient amounts using benchmarks and then explain how you would
estimate that amount. For example, if you need

cup of an ingredient,

cup is slightly more than

cup. You could fill up your

measuring cup twice
to make

cup of that ingredient, and then add just a tiny bit more to
estimate

cup.
• Use equations or other models to show how you would measure each

Your recipe and explanations will be submitted as your portfolio assessment.
