why is it impossible for a function to have fewer values in its domain than in its range? ?

The domain is the entire list of x values, while range would be the same for y. In a graph, we're always going to have a coordinate pair for every point, so more x's than y's or more y's than x's doesn't make sense, there can't be a sole x or y value. Hope this helps!
