The base area can be calculated many ways. It can be decomposed into two rectangles, one 8 yd by 2 yd, and another 4 yd by 5 yd. Hence the area is
.. Base area = (8 yd)*(2 yd) +(4 yd)*(5 yd)
.. = 16 yd^2 +20 yd^2
.. = 36 yd^2

Since the height of your figure is 8 yd, the total volume is
.. V = (Base area)*(height)
.. = (36 yd^2)*(8 yd) = 288 yd^3
