Why is the sky blue? and does it have to do anything to do with the color of my back yard

The sky is blue because it reflects off of our earth's water supply/oceans. This explains why areas that flourish with water sources have skies with rich shades of blue. More desolate areas, aka areas that lack water, are more of a light blue.
