Let us consider an object kept at height h. Such that it has maximum potential energy. And since at height h, the object is at rest. This means at height h, the object has no kinetic energy.

Similarly, the object will have maximum kinetic energy at ground, where its potential energy will be zero.

As per the conservation of energy, "The total energy of an object at any point is equal to sum of its kinetic energy and potential energy". That is,

The energy pertaining to an object depending upon its movement is classified as potential and kinetic energy. When an object is at rest, it will have maximum potential energy and zero kinetic energy.

When it starts to move at a particular velocity, its potential will start to decrease and its kinetic energy will increase from zero. So both have the capacity to store their energy.
