Aball of clay (mass, m) is traveling to the right with a velocity of 10.4 m/s. it collides with a stationary unknown object (mass 3m, effective radius 1 m), and the two objects stick together after the collision. the final angular speed of both objects is ωf = 2 radians/sec in the clockwise direction, and you can assume the unknown object is nailed in place and that there is no friction in this problem. a momentum chart may be useful, but it is not required for this problem. find iobject, if you know the moment of inertia of the unknown object is of the form iobject = xmr2, with x some fraction. if you replace the unknown object with a disk of radius 1 m, and keep the initial conditions the same, will ωf increase or decrease? assume the two objects still rotate in the clockwise direction after the collision. explain in one or two sentences, using equations to support your answer.
