Difference between physical and chemical properties:Physical Properties:Physical properties of a substance can be measured through initial observations without any alteration in its composition. It includes properties that define the physical structure and visual identification of a substance. Physical properties of a matter can be described without changing its chemical properties. For e.g. mass, density, volume, colour, boiling point, melting point or its phase. Chemical Properties:Chemical properties are observed only after performing a chemical reaction and this result in a change in its original chemical composition. Eg: Flammability, heat of combustion, reactivity, chemical stability, etc. Chemical properties of sodium define it to be a highly reactive metal which violently reacts with water and gives rise to an exploding reaction. When heated, it burns with a bright golden flame. When treated with acids, it gives out hydrogen gas.

Sodium metal can be defined by its physical properties to be a solid, silvery-white shiny metal with a melting point of 97.82⁰C and boiling point of 881.4°C. It is slightly less dense than water, 0.968 grams per cc.
