According to the law of universal gravitation, any two objects are attracted to each other. the strength of the gravitational force depends on the masses of the objects and their distance from each other.

many stars have planets around them. if there were no gravity attracting a planet to its star, the planet's motion would carry it away from the star. however, when this motion is balanced by the gravitational attraction to the star, the planet orbits the star.

two solar systems each have a planet the same distance from the star. the planets have the same mass, but planet a orbits a more massive star than planet b.

After the near spacecraft passed mathilde, on several occasions rocket propellant was expelled to adjust the spacecraft's momentum in order to follow a path that would approach the asteroid eros, the final destination for the mission. after getting close to eros, further small adjustments made the momentum just right to give a circular orbit of radius 45 km (45 × 10^3 m) around the asteroid. so much propellant had been used that the final mass of the spacecraft while in circular orbit around eros was only 545 kg. the spacecraft took 1.04 days to make one complete circular orbit around eros. calculate what the mass of eros must be.

Aprojectile is launched from ground level with an initial velocity of v 0 feet per second. neglecting air resistance, its height in feet t seconds after launch is given by s equals negative 16 t squared plus v 0 t. find the time(s) that the projectile will (a) reach a height of 192 ft and (b) return to the ground when v 0equals112 feet per second. (a) find the time(s) that the projectile will reach a height of 192 ft when v 0equals112 feet per second. select the correct choice below and, if necessary, fill in the answer box to complete your choice.
