A spent nuclear fuel (rho = 18,000 kg/m3, c = 350 J/(kg·K), k = 25 W/(m·K)) cylinder with length of 200 mm and diameter of 20 mm dissipates 2 kW of heat and is initially submerged in water at 20˚C with convection heat transfer coefficient of 500 W/(m2K). If the water flow is accidentally lost the fuel is exposed to air at 20˚C but with convection heat transfer coefficient of 50 W/(m2K). (a) What is the steady-state surface temperature of the fuel in water? (b) What is the steady-state surface temperature of the fuel in air? (c) How long after water cooling is lost will it take for the fuel to reach 1ºC below its steady-state value in air?

An electron and a proton have the same kinetic energy upon entering a region of constant magnetic field and their velocity vectors are perpendicular to the magnetic field. suppose the magnetic field is strong enough to allow the particles to circle in the field. note: you'll need to look up the masses for an electron and proton. 1) what is the ratio of the radii of their circular paths rp/re?

The great sandini is a 60.0-kg circus performer who is shot from a cannon (actually a spring gun). you don’t find many men of his caliber, so you him design a new gun. this new gun has a very large spring with a very small mass and a force constant of 1100 n/m that he will compress with a force of 4400 n. the inside of the gun barrel is coated with teflon, so the average friction force will be only 40.0 n during the 4.00 m he moves in the barrel. at what speed will he emerge from the end of the barrel, 2.50 m above his initial rest position?
