Hence V=V1+V2. The voltage drops V1 across resistor 1 and V2 across resistor 2 are the same, and they are independent of the values of R1 and R2. Both V1 and V2 are equal to the voltage provided by the source. Hence V=V1=V2. The current I provided by the voltage source splits: A part of it, I1, flows through resistor 1, while the remainder, I2, flows through resistor 2. Hence I=I1+I2. The currents I1 through resistor 1 and I2 through resistor 2 are the same, and they are equal to the current I provided by the source. Hence I=I1=I2.
