Let’s suppose the Sun has lived through half its total expected lifetime. If the sun formed in a binary system (both stars form at the same time) in which the other member was an M star, would you expect to see the M (main sequence) star today? How about if the companion were an O (main sequence) star? Explain. (Hint: OBAFGKM and the Sun is a G star. This question has two components: the life of the star in question and its intrinsic brightness. Discuss both.)
