A textbook of mass 2.05 kg rests on a frictionless, horizontal surface. A cord attached to the book passes over a pulley whose diameter is 0.200 m , to a hanging book with mass 3.05 kg . The system is released from rest, and the books are observed to move a distance 1.30 m over a time interval of 0.850 s .
A. What is the tension in the part of the cord attached to the textbook?
B. What is the tension in the part of the cord attached to the book?
C. What is the moment of inertia of the pulley about its rotation axis?

Steam is generated in a boiler of a cogeneration plant at 10 mpa and 450°c at a steady rate of 5 kg/s. in normal operation, steam expands in a turbine to a pressure of 0.5 mpa and is then routed to the process heater, where it supplies the process heat. steam leaves the process heater as a saturated liquid and is pumped to the boiler pressure. in this mode, no steam passes through a condenser, which operates at 20 kpa. (a) determine the power produced in the turbine and the rate at which process heat is supplied in this mode. (b) determine the power produced in the turbine and the rate of process heat supplied if only 60 percent of the steam is routed to the process heater and the remainder is expanded to the condenser pressure. Light from the sun reaches the earth in 8.3 minutes. the velocity is 3.00 x 10^8 m/s. how far is earth from the sun? i know how to get to d = (3 x 10^8 m/s)(498 sec). i just don't know how to get from there to the answer being 1.5 x 10^11 m.

With the simplified model of the eye, what corrective lens (specified by focal length as measured in air) would be needed to enable a person underwater to focus an infinitely distant object? (be careful-the focal length of a lens underwater is not the same as in air! assume that the corrective lens has a refractive index of 1.62 and that the lens is used in eyeglasses, not goggles, so there is water on both sides of the lens. assume that the eyeglasses are 1.90
