A motorcycle daredevil plans to ride up a 2.0-m-high, 20° ramp, sail across a 10-m-wide pool filled with hungry crocodiles, and land at ground level on the other side. He has done this stunt many times and approaches it with confidence. Unfortunately, the motor-cycle engine dies just as he starts up the ramp. He is going 11 m/s at that instant, and the rolling friction of his rubber tires (coefficient 0.02) is not negligible. Does he survive, or does he become croco-dile food? Justify your answer by calculating the distance he travels through the air after leaving the end of the ramp

Aplane takes off from an airport and flies to town a, located d1 = 215 km from the airport in the direction 20.0° north of east. the plane then flies to town b, located d2 = 230 km at 30.0° west of north from town a. use graphical methods to determine the distance and direction from town b to the airport. (enter the distance in km and the direction in degrees south of west.)

At a certain instant after jumping from the airplane a, a skydiver b is in the position shown and has reached a terminal (constant) speed vb = 52 m/s. the airplane has the same constant speed va = 52 m/s, and after a period of level flight is just beginning to follow the circular path shown of radius ρa = 2330 m. (a) determine the velocity and acceleration of the airplane relative to the skydiver. (b) determine the time rate of change of the speed vr of the airplane and the radius of curvature ρr of its path, both as observed by the nonrotating skydiver.

Cells in the nervous system have a potential difference of 70 mv across the cell membrane separating the interior of the cell from the extracellular fluid. this potential difference is maintained by ion pumps that move charged ions across the membrane. is this an emf? select the correct answer and explanation. 1)no. the ion pumps cannot separate charges; thus, they cannot create a potential difference. 2)yes. the ion pumps cannot separate charges, but they still can create a potential difference. 3)yes. the ion pumps can actively separate charge; thus, they can create a potential difference. 4)no. the ion pumps can separate charges, but they cannot create a potential difference.
