An extremely dense neutron with mass equal to that of the sun has a radius of about 10 km about the size of manhattan island. These stars are thought to rotate once about every 0.03 to 4 s, depending on their size and mass. Suppose that the neutron star described in the first sentence rotates once every 0.040 s. If its volume then expanded to occupy a uniform sphere of radius 1.4x10^8 m with no change in mass or rotational momentum, what time interval would be required for one rotation ? By comparision, the sun rotates once about its axis each month.

Global warming will produce rising sea levels partly due to melting ice caps but also due to the expansion of water as average ocean temperatures rise. to get some idea of the size of this effect, calculate the change in length of a column of water 1.00 km high for a temperature increase of 1.00ºc. note that this calculation is only approximate because ocean warming is not uniform with depth. (answer in ×10^{-3} −3 m)

The base of a 50-meter tower is at the origin; the base of a 50-meter tree is at (0, 50, 0). the ground is flat and the z-axis points upward. the following parametric equations describe the motion of six projectiles each launched at time t = 0 in seconds. (i) r (t) = (50 + t2)k (ii) r (t) = 2t2 j + 2t2k (iii) r (t) = 50 i + 50 j + (50 − t2)k (iv) r (t) = 2t j + (50 − t2)k (v) r (t) = (50 − 2t) i + 2t j + (50 − t)k (vi) r (t) = t i + t j + tk (a) which projectile is launched from the top of the tower and goes downward? at time t = , the projectile hits the ground at point (x, y, z) = . (b) which projectile hits the top of the tree?
