A ballistic pendulum consists of a thin rod AB (length = 2.00 m; mass = 0.75 kg) that is rigidly attached to a solid sphere that has a center C, radius = 0.40 m, and mass = 5.00 kg. A bullet (mass = 0.02 kg) is fired at point C with an unknown speed vv. You may assume that the bullet embeds itself inside the sphere precisely at point C and that the mass lost by the sphere during the impact due to the bullet is negligible. Immediately after the impact, measurements indicate that the system has 21.23 joules of kinetic energy. Determine the speed of the bullet.

Two kilograms of air within a piston–cylinder assembly executes a carnot power cycle with maximum and minimum temperatures of 800 k and 300 k, respectively. the heat transfer to the air during the isothermal expansion is 60 kj. at the end of the isothermal expansion the volume is 0.4 m3. assume the ideal gas model for the air. determine the thermal efficiency, the volume at the beginning of the isothermal expansion, in m3, and the work during the adiabatic expansion, in kj.
