A roller coaster is designed in which a 100 kg loaded car is pulled to the top of the first
hill which is 120 m tall. The car is then released and travels the rest of the way under
the influence of gravity. (Show you work on each problem.)
1. How much work was done on the car in getting it to the top of the first hill?
2. How much potential energy did it have as it sat still at the top of the first hill?
3. What is the maximum speed that the car could have at the bottom of the first hill?
4. Why would you expect the car to be traveling a little slower than the speed
calculated in question 3?
