A spring (k = 200 N/m) is fixed at the top of a frictionless plane inclined at angle θ = 39 . A 2.0 kg block is projected up the plane, from an initial position that is distance d = 0.80 m from the end of the relaxed spring, with an initial kinetic energy of 31 J.
(a) What is the kinetic energy of the block at the instant it has compressed the spring 0.10 m?
(b) With what kinetic energy must the block be projected up the plane if it is to stop momentarily when it has compressed the spring by 0.60 m?

Nitrogen (n2) undergoes an internally reversible process from 6 bar, 247°c during which pν1.2 = constant. the initial volume is 0.1 m3 and the work for the process is 121.14 kj. assuming ideal gas behavior, and neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine heat transfer, in kj, and the entropy change, in kj/s. show the process on a t-s diagram.

On a mild saturday morning while people are working inside, the furnace keeps the temperature inside the building at 23degreesc. at noon the furnace is turned off, and the people go home. the temperature outside is a constant 16degreesc for the rest of the afternoon. if the time constant for the building is 3 hr, when will the temperature inside the building reach 18degreesc? if some windows are left open and the time constant drops to 2 hr, when will the temperature inside reach 18degreesc?
