How dangerous or painful is the recoil of a shotgun?

If you’re going to be shooting a lot, get a surplus flak jacket. This isn’t a bulletproof vest, it just stops fragmentation or shrapnel. More importantly, it absorbs shock. You can fire a 12 gauge shotgun all day long and you won’t feel sore at all.
