A clever 74 kg physics student says they can use an 832 kg car to determine how fast they can run. All they have to do is run at full speed and jump onto the hood of the car and see what the
speedometer says as the car rolls back. The student tries this out and finds the car's
speedometer reads a measly 0.176 m/s. How fast did the student run? If the car was coasting
at a known velocity, instead of sitting stationary, would the student still be able to use this
method to determine how fast they can run? Identify which concepts, rules, laws, equations,
and features of this system are important and appropriate to solve this problem. Use qualitative,
quantitative, and graphical analysis methods to solve this problem. (Note: the car has to be in
neutral for this to work.)
