We wish to measure the voltage across four 12 V batteries wired in series to make a 48 V battery in a solar photovoltaic system as it charges and discharges with time. The voltage produced by a battery does not stay constant but will increase as it charges and decrease as it discharges. If we have a data logger that can only measure voltages between 0V and 10V, design a circuit that allows us to monitor the battery voltage as it changes between 45V and 55V.

Visualize the problem and identify special cases first examine the problem by drawing a picture and visualizing the motion. apply newton's 2nd law, ∑f⃗ =ma⃗ , to each body in your mind. don't worry about which quantities are given. think about the forces on each body: how are these consistent with the direction of the acceleration for that body? can you think of any special cases that you can solve quickly now and use to test your understanding later? one special case in this problem is if m2=0, in which case block 1 would simply fall freely under the acceleration of gravity: a⃗ 1=−gj^.

The drag force, fd, imposed by the surrounding air on a vehicle moving with velocity v is given by fd = cdaρv 2/2 where cd is a constant called the drag coefficient, a is the projected frontal area of the vehicle, and ρ is the air density. an automobile is moving at v = 80 kilometers per hour with cd = 0.28, a = 2.3 m2, and ρ = 1.2 kg/m3.
