A person is coasting forward on a bicycle on smooth, level ground, with negligible friction. After a few seconds of coasting, they begin pedaling, speeding up at a low rate of change of speed. A few seconds later, they see a pothole ahead, stop pedaling, and slam on the brakes, skidding to a stop at a high rate of change of speed.
1. Draw a possible speed vs. time graph for the cyclist over this period.
2. Indicate on your speed vs. time graph during which part(s) the cyclist is pedaling.
3. Draw a Giver/Receiver diagram for the bicycle and the ground when the cyclist is slowing down. For this
diagram, you may ignore any heat interactions with the surroundings and treat the cyclist and bicycle as a
single object.
