The diagram below shows a container filled with water. The three holes in the side of the container are sealed with rubber stoppers. The water exerts a pressure of 3000 Pa on the bottom of the container. The cross-sectional area of the bottom of the container is 0.009 m².
a) What is the pressure exerted by the water on the middle rubber stopper, if we assume it is exactly half way down the column of water. Give your answer as a number, units are not required.
b) Describe the energy transfer that takes place when the rubber stopper at the bottom of the container is removed.

The ratio of lift to drag l/d for a wing or airfoil is an important aerodynamic parameter, indeed, it is a direct measure of the aerodynamic efficiency of the wing. if a wing is pitched through a range of angle of attack, l/d first increases, then goes through a maximum, and then decreases. consider an infinite wing with an naca 2412 airfoil. estimate the maximum value of l/d. assume that the reynolds number is 9x10^6.

We will use a video to study faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction by analyzing the induction that occurs due a coil of copper wire sliding along an air track that passes through an external magnetic field. specifically, we will: examine some of the main principles behind faraday’s law. apply lenz’s law to determine the direction of the induced emf. take measurements of the induced emf from the voltmeter as the coil passes into and out of the external magnetic field. use the horizontal scale provided to determine the speed of the coil. calculate the magnetic field induced in the coil as it passes into and out of the external magnetic field.
