In the early part of the 1900's, some felt that space travel was not possible; in space, there is no air for the spacecraft to push back on, therefore, by Newton's 3rd law, forces cannot be exerted on the spaceship and spacecrafts cannot change direction nor speed. The solution to this is to eject fuel at high speeds. The fuel is ejected to the back to make the rocket speed up. The fuel is ejected to the front to make the rocket slow down, and the fuel is ejecred sideways to change directions. This is the principle behind rockets. A rocket of total mass 589 kg (including fuel) is moving at 8 kilometers/sec relative to the Earth. It ejects 98 kg of burnt fuel backwards at an average speed of 2 kilometers/sec relative to the Earth. How fast is the rocket moving after this fuel is ejected
