VIR Grids with Schematics Assignment Schematic Diagrams: Draw a schematic diagram for each situation described.
1. A flashlight is wired in series with 2 - single cell batteries, a switch, and a lightbulb.
2. A ceiling fan is wired in parallel with the lights attached to it. Use a single cell battery as the
voltage source and be sure to include a switch that controls both the fan and the lights.
3. A chandelier has 4 light bulbs attached in series to a switch. Use a single cell battery as the
voltage source.
4. A string of 10 Christmas lights are wired in parallel with each other. Use a double cell battery as
the voltage source with no switch.
VIR Grids: Use the schematics above the problems and the information for each problem to complete
the VIR grid.

Consider an ordinary, helium-filled party balloon with a volume of 2.2 ft3. the lifting force on the balloon due to the outside air is the net resultant of the pressure distribution exerted on the exterior surface of the balloon. using this fact, we can derive archimedes’ principle, namely that the upward force on the balloon is equal to the weight of the air displaced by the balloon. assuming that the balloon is at sea level, where the air density is 0.002377 slug/ft3, calculate the maximum weight that can be lifted by the balloon. note: the molecular weight of air is 28.8 and that of helium is 4.
