The interaction that caused the archer to miss was probably refraction.

Refraction is indeed the reason the archer missed.  When light passes from inside the water to the air outside, it bends causing the image of the target to appear to someone outside the pool to be in a different position.  This is due ultimately to the difference of electric permittivity between water and air.

The objects do not reach terminal velocity         there is not enough time from the time the object falls from when it hits the ground to achieve terminal velocity. an object must be placed higher to achieve terminal velocity in order to be in free fall.

The rocks expand when there hot/warm  and contract when they are cold.
