A grandpa travels along the freeway, going 60 mph. A young hotshot travels along the freeway in a car of the same make and model, going 90 mph. Both cars deliver the same fraction of gasoline energy to the drivetrain, and in both cases, almost all of that energy gets converted to thermal energy via drag as follows: (energy dissipated) =(drag force) x (distance traveled).
(i) What two horizontal forces are approximately balanced for a car traveling along the freeway at constant speed?
(ii) Using the formula drag force = (constant) x (speed)n with the appropriate value of n based on class discussion, if both cars make the same trip at their respective speeds, what is hotshot's gas mileage relative to grandpa's? Express as a percentage.

Assume that a person skiing high in the mountains at an altitude of h = 15100 ft takes in the same volume of air with each breath as she does while walking at sea level. determine the ratio of the mass of oxygen inhaled for each breath at this high altitude compared to that at sea level. assume that the air composition (i.e. % of air that is oxygen) is the same at sea level as it is at 15100 ft.

Arefrigerator uses r-134a as the working fluid and operates on the ideal vapor-compression refrigeration cycle except for the compression process. the refrigerant enters the evaporator at 120 kpa with a quality of 34 percent and leaves the compressor at 70°c. if the compressor consumes 450 w of power, determine (a) the mass flow rate of the refrigerant, (b) the condenser pressure, and (c) the cop of the refrigerator.
