The mechanic needs to lift the car up. Here is a diagram of a hydraulic pump. He can put a car on the ram and use the handle to lift the car. The mechanic pushes the handle down and the oil pushes the large piston up. The valves let more oil in so that he can pump the handle again. a)What would happen if the pump used air instead of oil?

b)Why does it need to let more oil in each time?

c) The area of the large cylinder is 100 cm2.What pressure will he need in the oil to lift the car?

d)The area of the small piston is 5 cm. What force does he need to apply to the small piston to produce that pressure?​
