Barry buys a house that turns out to be a financial drain. At first, he abandons it. It turns into a crack house and the neighbors complain. He burns the house down, standing by with a garden hose and shovel. 1. Has Barry committed a crime?
2. What if the fire department comes to the scene and finds a charred body in the ashes? It seems as though a burglar had broken into the house and had become lodged under the kitchen sink (hidden from view) as he was stealing copper.
3. Is Barry guilty of any crime? Why or why not? Discuss based on the text and your own research of applicable laws.
4. Does he have an arguable defense for burning the house down?
