In more ways than you may realize. First and foremost, you may not be selected for a job you have applied for. Many people do not like the smell of smoke, and smokers do not know how cigarette smoke permeates into your clothing and discolors your teeth. It may be wrong, but many employers do discriminate, and if you are working with the public, personal appearance (and smell) is an important consideration. Secondly, smokers take "smoke breaks" so they typically work less than their fellow employees. Smokers also are thought to be higher risk employees from a health factor, and are thought to be sick more often than others. Bosses know this. 

Personal finances are also impacted by the cost of cigarettes. Figuring a cost of $6 a pack, smoking could cost a couple hundred dollars a month in after-tax money. To remove the smell of smoke, an individuals dry-cleaning bill is typically higher. Having something to drink or something to munch on while one lights up is another possible silent expense. Your furniture will have to be cleaned more often, but the discoloration of smoke cannot be prevented. The value of your belongings will quickly depreciate, since who would want to purchase smoke impacted stuff? This is just a few things that quickly come to mind. Bottom line, if you don't smoke, don't smoke. If you already are addicted, the cost of quitting is far less expensive than the cost of not quitting! Hope this helps!
