Before long, we had to change into warmer clothing. After bundling up, I stood on the deck and took pictures of the seabirds flying overhead. Mom took pictures of me, and she said she would email them to Grandma when we had access to the internet. "My little photographer," she said happily, putting her arm around my shoulders. She was so glad that I shared her passion for photography. On the second day of our voyage, Mom woke me up early in the morning. "Quick, grab your camera and get out here," she told me as I slowly climbed out of the top of the bunk bed. "You won't want to miss this!"

Read the excerpt from the story Swimming with Sharks: A Galapagos Adventure:

The plane landed, and the passengers stepped outside. Steven could already tell that this trip was going to be amazing. The weather was less humid than the rain forest and the sun was shining. He grinned at his parents and took a deep breath before he started talking a mile a minute.

"I can't wait to meet some sharks!" he exclaimed. "I just know I'll find the albino whale shark. It's—"

"One of the rarest sharks in the world, we all know!" interrupted Nick. "You've talked about nothing else since we planned this trip weeks ago!"

"Now Nick, be nice to your brother," their dad scolded. "He's excited, and he should be. Seeing a rare creature like the albino whale shark is definitely worth getting excited about."

"I'm excited, too!" their mom said enthusiastically. "I can't wait to see the giant tortoises. Some of them live to be centuries old. Who knows? Maybe one of them actually met Charles Darwin."
