What factors led to europe’s voyages of exploration?

The European age of exploration in the 15th and 16th century was a result of competition between European countries to expand their empires and increase their wealth. The French, British, Portugese,Spanish to name a few set out to explore and  establish colonies that would bring them 'gold and glory'.
