What will happen to our planet if we don't recycle plastic?

Unlike organic substance, Plastics take a lot of time to be degraded in a soil (could be more than 100 years)
If we don't use recycle, the amount of plastic could accumulated in soil. This could make plants unable to grow in the area since the plastic become a hindrance for the roots to get necessary substance, and it could also cause the land unable to retain water.
