How is schizophrenia a split between the emotional and intellectual parts of a person?

How is schizophrenia a split between the emotional and intellectual parts of a person? A person who has schizophrenia has a hard time processing real thoughts with imagines of distorted reality. Because they have a hard time separating the two, there is often is split in the emotional and intellectual parts of a person. Not being able to differentiate real from fantasy makes it difficult for anyone that has schizophrenia to understand reality.
