What would have happened if india was not a democracy ? could we have stayed together as a single nation

If India weren't a democratic country, then there would be a possibility that the government of India may create disparity among the citizens, like supporting certain people or social class and serving them, while simultaneously neglecting others. There is less chance of India would have stayed together as a single unified nation without democracy as equality and rules of law are the crucial components of democratic government. Democratic government tries to enhance the standard of living of its people equally and looks at its citizens with equality. There is equality in the common legal, political and economic institutions for each person. In democratic countries law is superior and government should obey its legislature.
