It is often said that the united states is a nation of immigrants. does this statement remain true today even though the country has numerous laws in place that limit immigration? explain your reasoning. 

The United States has always been, and remains to this day, a "nation of immigrants". Our country is a true "melting pot" of beliefs, cultures, and identities. The diversity of the U.S. population is as prevalent as ever. According to americanprogress.org, "The number of foreign-born individuals in the U.S. population has more than quadrupled since 1965 and is expected to reach 78 million by 2065."
The fact that immigration has become (in my opinion necessarily) limited does not change the fact that the United States remains a culturally and ethnically diverse nation.
