The primary mechanism of external social control is "criminal justice system".

Internal means of control, for example, a person's own feeling of good and bad, diminish the probability that one will go against the social standards. Through external means of control, people acclimate in light of the fact that an authority figure or organization threatens sanctions if the individual resists. And contemporary societies have build up the system of criminal justice system as an external means of control.
