The correct answer is the developement of railroads and the oil drilling technology. Railroads brought more people who settled and built first cities along the railroad. This expanded Texan traid of goods from ranches and farms. Later on driling pipes were able to find gas and oil in the 20th century making it the primary source of income for the state.
