What does bruno say and do to show his growing understanding of the inhumanity going on around him including to his friend shmuel

In the fable, "Acts of Humanity", Bruno becomes and stays best friends with Shmuel, even though the world around him tells him that he shouldn't because Shmuel is Jewish.

Throughout the story, Bruno witnesses how society and his family members treat Jewish people unfairly. Bruno's father is a Nazi in this story and Bruno sees his father and mother treat Jewish people like they are not humans.

As Bruno begins to understand the world around him more, he finds ways to help his friend, Shmuel. He helps him look for his father, and sneaks food to his friend.

Since Bruno is confused about how the Jewish people are treated, he asks the adults that he trusts why this is happening. He questions the inhumane way that these people and his friend are being treated. When his parent reprimand him for asking and try to reinforce the idea that Jewish people are savage and corrupting everything, Bruno turns to the other person he trusts - his sister. She also tells him that Jewish people are bad.

Bruno questioning the atmosphere around him and asking people close to him why, shows that he is becoming more aware of the world around him and starting to form his own opinions about the world.
