The sympathetic nervous system is the system that activates the fight or flight condition. Like other parts of the nervous system, the SNS operates through a series of neurons.  

The sympathetic neurons are considered part of the peripheral nervous system. Even many lies under the CNS.  Sympathetic neurons in the spinal cord communicate with the peripheral system. Prolonged activation elicits the release of adrenaline from the adrenaline cortex.  It is a part of ANS also called involuntarily process.  It is the condition of fight and flight.  It directs the body's rapid involuntary response to the dangerous and stressful situation It doesn't stress the person when the danger has passed.
