Why did the cherokee and other native americans side with the british?

When the British settlers first arrived in North America, they established a trade in commodities. As more settlers flocked over, the natives saw things getting out of hand in terms of colonization. The last thing they wanted was to have even more of that. And of course when the events of pre civil war were looming, they decided to side with the original settlers, seeing as they would be less of a threat. And so on goes the story. Rather than creating greater calamity, they decided to make a treaty of sorts to defend from further colonization of North America, but as we know, things didn’t turn out particularly well for the natives.. look at your globe and tell me how that went
