The theory of communicative acting presupposes a model of action oriented towards mutual understanding, without which actor the actors internally harmonize their objectives and actions with the existing - communicative reached - agreement or negotiated about a situation and as expected consequences.

Mutual understanding, therefore, can function as a mechanism of action for actions, so that those who come to agree rationally motivate a certain content, which suits common convictions and agreements.
