Cognitive Dissonance is a theory that explains how we tend to want to keep and maintain constant beliefs and opinions.

If we see any interruption in the consistency of our beliefs or attitudes (dissonance) then we look for something that can get rid of that dissonance. For example if our behavior no longer correlate with our attitude then one of these must change probably we will change the attitude to fit with the new behavior.

Dissonance can be removed through minimizing the value of dissonant beliefs , adopt more consonant beliefs,change the dissonant beliefs to restore consistency.
