Explanation:

Selection is the mechanism that we have , for knowing what things to put our attention and focus while ignoring the rest or regarding them as irrelevant.

Every person has its own perception but in any case a selection makes some stimuli relevant while disregarding the many others present in the environment.

It would be otherwise impossible for brains , and we also have an amazing unconscious capacity that pick and cooses what is deemed relevant for us.

While picking some stimuli , selection is influenced heavily by our  motives, incentives, inner drives or basic instincts.

This often is why we are "predisposed" to see things in such a way, and it also makes us most eager to act based on specific stimuli.

Of course this has a long history since we as human species have adapted mechanisms in our effort to survive.
