In a similar way, an antecedent is something that precedes another. Here, antecedent is considered a factor that leads to a behavior or sets the stage for a behavior to occur. Hence, this factor or action or element will be called an antecedent for that specific behavior. The antecedent is established by noticing and investigating the settings in which the behavior occurs and by looking at the changes that occurred immediately before the onset of the behavior.
